American carmaker, GM made a public declaration saying that it had signed a deal with Teijin Limited. This is a Japanese company that produces composite and carbon fiber at an international level. The future models created by GM will have in their composition the carbon fiber and the composite material produced by the Japanese company. For the ones who didn't know yet, carbon fiber is 10 times stronger than the regular steel, but 75 % lighter. Teijin will open a technical center in the North of the US. The engineers have created a technology that is able to produce CFRP components in only a few seconds. This is a great thing for mass produced models. Using carbon fiber a lot of problems are being solved. First of all, the material reduces in a significant way, the vehicles' weight. This leads to the decreasing of fuel consumption and also the CO2 emissions. Last, but not least, this improves safety.
