2012 Chevrolet Sonic was recalled fo missing brake pad

General Motors is currently facing an embarrassing situation due to the fact that the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, a pride and joy in the subcompact segment, has issued a recall because it has an important component missing, a fact never encountered in the case of recalls, which have dealt so far with defective significant parts. The recall affects 4,873 Sonic models which were built from June 2, 2011, through November 21, 2011, in the US and Canada.
On December 29th, a Sonic was brought to a dealership for the first time and this is how GM became somehow aware of the problem. It appears that the customer complained about some strange noises which were coming from the braking system, caused by the missing brake pad. It is a fortunate situation, however, as the missing brake pad has not resulted in any accidents. GM announced in an official statement that if a brake pad was missing, the dealers would immediately install new inner and outer pads, a new brake calliper, as well as a new rotor, a service performed free of charge.
