The BMW Group launched the new 2012 M5 saloon and also the MINI brand at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. The price for the MINI Cooper was somewhere between $ 47.000 and $ 36.700 and for the BMW M5 $ 181.000. These did not include handling taxes or any other of that matter and so, they would still be a little expensive for the majority of the Indian customers. But, as the population is of 1.2 billion people we have to admit that there is a significant market for premium-priced models here. The MINI brings to the Indian market several models like the Cooper and the Cooper S hatchbacks, but also the Cooper S Countryman crossover and the Cooper Convertible. With the launch of all these models and more, the German carmaker BMW makes its debut in the premium small segment in India. It will have a lot of work to do, first with establishing the MINI brand there and then focusing on high sales.
