The production of the VW BlueSport Roadster is on hold

Exactly three years ago, German carmaker Volkswagen revealed in 2009 at the North American International Show, the BlueSport Concept. Back then, there were rumors saying that the model will be sent to production and that it will also underpin an Audi version and a Porsche Boxter.
The concept looked a lot like a final production version, maybe needing just few tweaks, but now it's ready to offer more to the potential buyers, some open-top and rear-wheel drive. Nothing is for sure, but this is what we've heard from one of VW's engineers.
Porsche is not sure if a model of this kind will hurt sales or not, but Audi decided to add a smaller mid-engine two seater in its range. It may be called the R4. There are a lot of chances the BlueSport Roadster will not be able to sell enough to enter production, so at least 50.000 units per year. it seems that the US market is not really a successful one for roadsters and this is why the carmaker is not really in a hurry to take fast decisions.
