No Porsche for the people, says the company`s boss

There is a lot of good news for the Porsche fans as the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer has replaced half its range and launched a whole-new 911 together with the third-generation Boxster. The sportiest version of the Panamera, the GTS, has also been introduced, but the ones who were thinking of purchasing a cheaper Porsche, are going to be disappointed. Matthias Muller, the Porsche CEO, stated to the German news daily Wirtschafts Woche, that the company did not intend at all to introduce a smaller roadster, thus denying the rumours, according to which a new entry-level model would slot below the Boxster. Muller commented during the last year's Frankfurt Motor Show, that he would want to see the company develop a smaller roadster model, which would be considered a spiritual predecessor to the 550 Spyder. However, such a model would undermine the image of the company, and as Muller said, a small roadster would overstretch the brand and, perhaps, a next generation of customers is required, fit to acquire a small Porsche roadster. The Porsche CEO did not reveal details of how these buyers might look like. Probably Porsche's decision has something to do with Volkswagen's decision to put the BlueSport roadster on hold, a car which would share its platform with the "baby Boxster". Porsche does not fear the idea of diluting its image by producing a smaller SUV, the Cajun, although it already has a four-model range that consists of Boxster/Cayman, 911, Panamera and Cayenne, as it is focusing on the option of developing a smaller saloon than the Panamera. Porsche is also going to double its lineup with the limited production 2013 918 Spyder and a 400,000 mid-engined Ferrari rival that will be the bridge between the 250,000 GT2 and the 750,000 918. The Cajun is expected to increase Porsche sales from 2011's 120,000 units to 200,000 by 2018, by selling 50,000 units annually.
