Fiat prepares 4x4 edition of ist new Panda city car

The newest iteration of the Panda model was presented to the enthusiast public at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show and Fiat is going to offer a four-wheel version of this popular city car. Thus, it was spy photographed while it was undergoing some winter testing in Europe, revealing a prototype of the third generation Panda 4x4, being expected to join the range at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2013. The all-wheel drive setup of the new Panda 4x4 will share a lot of elements with its predecessor, incorporing a hydraulic clutch in front of the rear differential. As far as powertrain is concerned, rumours say that the engines might include both diesel and petrol units, while changes to the suspension will be made by Fiat's engineers. The suspension will be strenghtened and raised in an appropriate manner and some mild styling changes to the front bumper and grille assembly will help the new Panda 4x4 stand out from its 2WD brethren. The styling modifications are enhanced by the addition of plastic cladding around the wheel arches. At a later date, a higher-ridding and more distinct looking 4x4 Cross model is expected to make its appearance.
