The covers of the first models of the new M Performance sub-brand including the M550d, X5 M50d and X6M50d, have been recently taken by BMW earlier this week. But this does not end here as the German company is seriously thinking of expanding its range by including most of its models, among which there is the 1-Series five-door hatchback, which represents a prototype that has been recently spy photographed. The car model was undergoing some testing in Europe. It is important to mention that the recently announced 125i powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that raises an output of 218 bhp and 310 Nm, thus sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 245 km/h, is considered to be the most powerful model of the new 1-Series. Some sources informed that the M Performance version of the 1-Series 5d would be named M135i and would receive its power from the same N55 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine featuring twin blowers found in th 6-Series models, such as the new Grand Coupe 640i. This implies an output of 320 HP and 450 Nm. However, it is still unknown whether it will feature an xDrive all-wheel drive system or a rear-wheel drive setup, but it will be coupled to a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. The prototype seen in the pictures comprises a new body kit which is similar in appearance to the 1-Series Performance Concept presented at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The M135i's suspension and steering wheel settings will receive some changes from BMW M's engineers, who will also add more powerful brakes in order to improve its handling and dynamics. The new M135i is expected to make its public debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.
