Mazda is recalling over 52,000 tribute SUVs from 2001 and 2002 MY

A potential problem with the brake master cylinder reservoir cap, which is in danger of breaking and leaking brake fluid, has caused Mazda's U.S. arm to issue a recall that concerns no more than 52,390 Tribute SUVs from the 2001 and 2002 model years. The vehicles were manufactured from April 20, 2000, through July 19, 2002. Mazda informed in a note to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that if the fluid leaked and was exposed to the antilock brake system's module wiring harness connector, it might lead to its corrosion and thus cause a melting, smoking or even fire. The owners of the affected models will be notified by the Japanese carmaker and the dealers are going to replace the Tribute's brake master cylinder reservoir cap and to modify the ABS electrical system. The entire operation will be made free of charge. Owners are also advised by the company not to use their vehicles on the road until the repair has been completed.
