The hatchback segment started a few years ago to go insane offering a level of power that represents real sports car-rivaling performance. Now, German carmaker Mercedes announced the fact that it will soon reveal a new model, the A23 AMG. This is meant to top the Audi RS3 that has an engine capable of delivering 340 horsepower. The new four-wheel-drive model will be revealed in September at the Auto Show that will take place in Paris. It will receive a seriously modified version of the current M271/M274 petrol unit. The power-plant will be developed in Brixworth Northamptonshire. It will feature a 7 mm wall thickness and 90 mm bore center space that the carmaker's High Performance Engine wing has created for the turbocharged 1.6-liter F1 engine. The new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder will use twin-scroll turbo layout and has to be more powerful than the 320 horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six. This last one will power the BMW M135i. The 2.0-liter will also be more powerful than the 340 horsepower, 4-cylinder that powers the Audi RS3. Source: autoevolution
