Cadillac ATS is making European debut in Geneva

Having been marketed as a strong rival for European cars, the Cadillac ATS sedan has been on the market before the first turn of its engine. However, this does not make it a success story although it does not seem farfetched to own a Cadillac in Europe. While the chassis setup was boned on the Nurburgring, the car was tested by GM engineers agains some other sedan performance benchmarks. The Corvette has the same features and one cannot see many cars belonging to this model, next to a Twingo in Paris. In order to make the ATS relevant, the engineers started out with a black canvas and a brand new architecture was developed because the existing ones appeared to be too heavy, resulting in a car featuring one of the lowest curb weights in the segment, less than 1,542 kg, being car with nearly 50/50 weight. As the company is trying to attract new and younger buyers to the brand, the ATS is planned to go on sale in Europe this autumn, featuring a highly competitive price, which is a bit under 30,000 Euros. The Geneva Motor Show starts on March, 6th and Cadillac has officially announced the European auto show debut of the new compact sedan, but they did not mention anything about the 2.5-liter four-pot or the 3.6-liter V6. The 2.0-liter Turbo that delivers 273 HP is the only engine announced for Europe right now. Wolfgang Schubert, Cadillac Europe Managing Director, stated that the ATS ticked all the right boxes for European customers as it was quick, stylish, nimble and offered great driving pleasure. He added that they were very excited to add such a superb vehicle to their product portfolio, featuring all the right credentials to seriously challenge the status quo in the premium compact sedan.
