The launch of Chevy's new global mid-size sedan, called the Malibu, was announced by Shanghai GM with the first examples beginning to roll onto dealer's lots in America. According to the information released by GM, the actor and Chevrolet Malibu ambassador Tony Leung Chiu Wai attended the ceremony. The actor is well-known for his acting in Hero and for the fact that he won Best Actor at Cannes in 2000. The Malibu is available for preorder at 552 Chevrolet dealerships across China and it has been priced from RMB 162,900 to RMB 229,000, which translates into $25,871 to $36,512, depending on the current exchange rate. It is available to customers with either 2.0-liter DVVT or 2.4-liter SIDI engines. Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group, stated that the Malibu would be a great addition to the Chevrolet family in China due to its balanced combination of style, comfort and drivability, adding that it would play an important role in expanding GM's presence in the upper-medium passenger car segment.
