Chevrolet Trailblazer is under NHTSA investigation


Japanese carmaker Toyota is under investigation now due reports of door fires, but Chevrolet is too. The Highway Traffic Safety Administration started a more rigorous analysis concerning fires originating in the master power window switch of the driver. The models under investigation are the models built between 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs. Now 341.786 units are involved and the specialists will try to determine if the vehicles mentioned above have a defect that feature a real danger and if it risks safety. It seems that General Motors presented 167 reports and 698 warranty claims that refer to the alleged problem. The Office of Defects Investigation received 83 complaints and 66 refer to the door module that had melted or burned. The rest, 17, refer to the inoperative or erratically window switches. So far there is no information on the result of the investigation. The Highway Traffic Safety Administration declared that 28 of the complaints have led to driver door fires even if the car was off, but fortunately, unattended. The Highway Traffic Safety Administration feel obliged to check other model that are close to the Trailblazer to see it there were any problems reported. In this category enter the Isuzu Ascender, GMC Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada, Saab 9-7X and Buick Rainier. The result will be made public at a later date.
