The EV charging stations will multiply by 2017

At the moment, there are 10.000 electric car charging stations in the United States, which are available to the public. This number does not include the many private charging stations found in homes and businesses across the country. A study made by a consultancy company, Frost & Sullivan, indicates the fact that before 2017, the number of EV charging stations will reach 4.1 million. It seems that 3.5 million of them are going to be in residential locations and the rest of them will be available for the public. The best explication is that most of the electric vehicles are being charged at night while the vehicle is parked at home. According to the specialists, this is the ideal time to charge this type of car. The consultancy company believes that most of the charging will be done with the help of a level 1 charging stations as the electric cars spend around 10 to 12 hours per night in the garage without interruptions. This particular charging stations plug into a 110-volt outlet, making them very cheap and portable. Most EVs receive a level 1 charge chord for free and so most of the drivers will not spend more money on a level 2 charging station. The same company believes that before 2017 there will be 2.9 million level 1 type charging stations in all the US. Around 1.1 million stations will be 240-volt level 2 type. The price of installing a level 2 charge system is higher then the level 1, especially in a public space because of the additional wiring, but also the charging time is shorter. Such a charging station has to receive the approval of a qualified electrician. The rest of the EV stations, the 82.000 will be direct current fast charging stations that will have the capability of recharging the batteries in less than an hour and a half. We will have to wait and see if the suppositions will come true or not.
