Hyundai is withdrawing Accent from India

Over the past few years, huge progress has been made by the Korean automaker Hyundai as buyers and critics received quite well their design language. However, some really old models which include the Santro Xing hatchback, the Fluidic Verna and the Accent, are still to be found in the showrooms of India. In 1999, the Accent was launched in India in order to be a strong competitor against the Maruti Esteem and Daewoo Cielo and it provided great success for some years after, but, unfortunately, only 11,000 units were sold last year. Although the carmaker made a refresh last year, the sales figures of 2012 became even worse and it should not come as a surprise for a ten-year-old car which offers a 1.5 SOHC petrol engine. The diesel option that would have been highly appreciated in India was eliminated. The India media announced the demise of the Accent in 2012, after having been one of the cars that lasted very long in this country.
