Dodge ended its partnership with the Chrysler Group

Apparently Dodge and NASCAR do not really go together. Back in February, Penske Racing decided to end the partnership with Chrysler Group brand at the end of the 2012 season and even switch to Ford. The Detroit carmaker did not have a lot of options for Sprint Cup cars in 2013, or so it says. It seems that Dodge tried a lot to find a company to replace Penske Racing as a builder for its competition engines, but the solution refused to show up. This is what Ralph Gilles, SRT Motorsports President and CEO declared. He also said they have tried to see all options concerning future involvement in NASCAR in the last five months. Several options came to mind and their team worked very hard trying to put a structure together and work out a system to fit their competitive and business objectives. Unfortunately, even if their enthusiasm was incredible, the interest from the teams and sponsors was the same, in the end the results did not show up and they did not manage to develop just the right structure. The conclusion is very obvious, the SRT Motorsports will retract the Dodge name plant from the NASCAR racing after the 2012 racing season is over. The regret of the specialists turns towards the fans they will be letting down. Dodge had been represented in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup seven of the eight seasons and recorded 215 wins in the Sprint Cup Series, including 55 since 2001. Back in 2010, Brad Keselowski won the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship in a Dodge offered by Penske Racing. The fans will be affected by this decision, but will move on.
