Honda considers Civic hatchback for US

Last year the current generation of the Honda Civic was launched and the Japanese car manufacturer is considering the next generation which is supposed to hit the markets at the beginning of 2016, thus showing only five years into the current model's life cycle. According to some information released by USA Today, Honda aims to introduce on the US market a five-door hatchback version of the car, following Hyundai which also introduces a five-door version of the Elantra. The Civic hatch will not be able to pull the same trick as the Elantra five-door actually represents the European i30. The next generation model for the US is going to be developed exclusively in North America instead of offering the funky European version of the Civic. Erik Berkman, who is the president of Honda R&D Americas, announced the decision at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Michigan.
