One 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo was the best at Pebble Beach

At the 2012 Pebble Beach edition, a lot of interesting and most of all, beautiful cars have showed their face. One of them though, won the Best in Show award. The model we are talking about is a special 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo roadster. Under the hood it has a 6.8-liter supercharged engine and it had as designer a French coachbuilder, Jacques Saoutchik. All vehicles in this family had 6-cylinder in-line engine with a supercharger to increase output. The 6.8-liter was capable of developing 120 BHP without a supercharger and 180 BHP with the supercharger engaged. This output made the S Type one of the fastest sports cars of its time. Its first official public display took place in 1927 at the Nurburgring. Power was also improved by the dual ignition. Its current owners are Paul and Judy Andrew from Texas. The gorgeous roadster managed to win this award before, a few years ago, in 2001. Only 146 units were ever built and most of them were sold as open-top four-seat with a Sindelfingen body. At the Goodwood Revival, Mercedes-Benz Classic will be represented by five original Silver Arrows. This actually will be the biggest gathering of Silver Arrows for a number of decades. The German carmaker managed to win Best of Show award seven times and managed to collect more than 120 First in Class and Special Awards as part of a long list of successes since 1950. The Pebble Beach Concours dElegance in the US is one of the most prestigious classic car shows in the world. At the Gooding & Company auction that took place at the Pebble Beach event, a German Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster from 1936 was sold for $11.8 million. This car has a very incredible history.
