The spy photographs used to show vehicles developed by just one manufacturer, but the latest ones show exactly the opposite as Mercedes jumped across the Maginot Line and decided to build cars with the French, resulting in a test mule that is both a Renault and a Smart. Nissan's luxury division, Infiniti, the commercial vehicles built by both companies, but also the engines they use and small cars are affected by this alliance. The car represents the result of the Edison Project, which was realized by Daimler and Renault-Nissan in April 2010. This test mule features a few Smart parts underneath, the taillights from the Twingo facelift and the headlights from the old Twingo. This agreement is rumoured to offer a new Renault city car, which might be named Izzy, together with the new Smart Fortwo, both being built on a rear-wheel drive platform and a rear-engine. Furthermore, the For-us concept is expected to borrow the styling for the new Fortwo, with diesel, petrol and electric versions offered to enthusiast customers.
