Which is the best-selling car in the world this year?

A few days ago, American carmaker Ford declared that their Ford Focus is the best-selling car in the world from the beginning of the year until now. Japanese carmaker Toyota thinks differently. They claim their Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in the world. Now, let us talk numbers. Ford managed to sell 489.616 units of the Focus through June. Toyota on the other hand, sold 462.817 units of the Corolla. The competition is so tide, that Ford hired an independent company, IHI Automotive, to make the calculations. If you think things are so simple, you could not be more wrong. The Americans sell their Focus worldwide under only one name, but the Japanese company sells the Corolla with different body styles that carry different names. These units were not introduced in the final number offered by IHI Automotive. The Japanese declared that they managed to sell 603.840 Corolla-based models through June, which makes it the best-selling car in the world, dismissing the Ford Focus. Apparently, the Auris and Corolla alone managed to sell 524.000 units worldwide and even this number is higher than the one Ford feels so proud about. When it comes to the North American market, the American Focus sold 147.877 units through July and the Corolla managed to sell 175.366 units. The debate could last for a while, and maybe it will, but one thing is for sure, and that is that these are the best cars in the world, the models clients feel attracted too. For sure it is just a matter of ego like in the case of the General Motors and Toyota. Each declared they are the biggest in the world, and they were not wrong at all.
