Audi is setting camp in Mexico

German carmaker Audi has big plans regarding its development. The specialists will try and succeed, of course, to build a new production facility, but this time in San Jose Chiapa, in Mexico. Why? Well, because is in the center, it is very close to highly reputable universities and colleges of advanced technology. At first, Audi thought about opening a plant in North America, but the competitive costs and existing fee trade agreements were just not worth it and this is why Mexico is better, at least for the moment. The Mexican government and the State of Puebla were very supportive of the selection process.

This new plant will be the most modern in the Audi production network for its efficient use of resources and production methods. Before they made up their mind with the location, the specialists made sure they could find well-qualified employees there. Other major factors Audi officials care about are the quality of life, healthcare provision and the security of their employees. This new production facility opened in Mexico will offer further growth and will also protect capacity at the main plants. This is what Peter Mosch, General Works Council Chairman declared. The plant will use new technologies that will help develop modern production methods by using new materials and combined techniques all taking into consideration electric mobility. This offers secure jobs and additional career prospects. The Company guarantees employment until the end of 2018. At this new facility, Audi will build a replacement for the current Q5 SUV. Plans are to manufacture 150.000 units per year. The production process will start in 2016. Constructions on the plant building are scheduled to begin sometime next year. This is all the information the carmaker revealed so far on the matter.
