Peugeot will reveal a teaser of the of the pre-production version of the 208 Type R5 in Paris

French carmaker Peugeot has prepared a few surprises for the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Now it seems that the specialists might add a new model on the list. We are talking about the pre-production Peugeot 208 Type R5 rally car which is also scheduled to appear. The model will be available for purchase before the end of next year in order to be able to compete in the national and international championships the next season.

The successor of the Super 2000 will send the power to all four wheels through a 5-speed sequential transmission and two locking differential, but no center differential. Under the hood it will hide a 1.6-liter THP 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine borrowed from the 207 S2000 capable of generating 280 horsepower and 295 lb. ft. of torque. The wheels feature four-pot calipers. To transfer the output to the road, the engineers have offered 18-inch wheels for tarmac stages and 15-inch ones on gravel. The minimum weight of the Peugeot 208 Type R5, for any setup will be 1.200 kg. So far, the 207 S2000 managed to win everything and it holds with no doubt, the greatest record in the category. The new Peugeot 208 Type R5 benefits from all the expertise and experience of Peugeot Sport. The Project leader for the 208 Type R5 is the same one in charge for the 207 S2000, Bertrand Vallat. The model will be tested starting the end of this year both on asphalt and on gravel.

It will compete at the International Rally Challenge, the European Rally Championship and National Championships. To handle the speed, the engineers will provide Alcon 4-pistons for the front brakes and rear ones measuring 300 in diameter for gravel and 355 for asphalt. These are all the information available on the new Peugeot model, but more details will be offered on the 27th of this month at the Auto Show.
