Bikes are more popular in Italy

Maybe the economical crisis in Europe has a lot to do with it, but it seems that more Italians choose bikes as a way of transportation lately. The popularity of bikes has increased a lot shadowing the automobile sales for the first time since the Second World War, at least in Italy. The Christian Science Monitor highlighted the fact that, for example last year, people have bought 1.75 million bikes and only 1.748 million cars. Some of the reasons are of course the high prices of fuel and the maintenance costs that have increased a whole deal. The price of gas reached EUR2 per liter, so this is $9.50 per gallon. Car owners spend around EUR7.000 per year for the 4-wheel luxury. If these reasons are not good enough for you, we have more.

Italy has a lot of problems with congestions in many parts of the country and apparently, a lot do not really care for it. Six in ten people own a car, and this is one of the highest rates in the world. Together with the narrow streets, driving in Italy can be a real challenge. It will take you less time to go across Rome by bike than by taxi, or at least this is what the author of the report said.

The auto industry now in Europe is a disaster according to Fiat boss, Sergio Marchionne. Fiat sales have decreased by 25 % in comparison with the same period last year. Even the people used with only driving cars have started to modify their thinking and this is not a good direction for the car industry. The sales level decreased a lot, and chances are it will not reach the level from 2008, for example. Many families have only one car because of the maintenance costs and purchase bikes as alternatives. This way of transportation is both convenient and it cost almost nothing, bikes work on fat. autoblog
