Fiat offers more info on the 2013 Panda 4x4 and Trekking

Italian carmaker Fiat is looking for ways of expanding its Panda range. One of the options is by offering two affordable crossover-like models for the A-segment. To be more precise, we are talking about the Fiat Panda 4x4 and Panda Trekking. Timing is perfect customers are looking now for smaller, cheaper and more fuel-efficient vehicles to satisfy their needs. The first model, the Panda 4x4 uses a suspension that offers a higher ground clearance over the regular 2WD and it uses 15-inch wheels covered in 175 / 65 R15 84T M+S tires to transfer the output to the road. The engineers offered all-wheel drive system with two differentials and electronically controlled coupling. In the same time, the new model will also receive an Electronically Stability Control system with Electronic Locking Differential function. This last feature is available for all units as standard. In terms of power train, the Fiat Panda 4x4 receives two options. The first one is a 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo petrol capable of developing 84 horsepower, followed by a 1.3-liter MultiJet II diesel with 74 horsepower as output. To transfer the power produced to the wheels, the engineers have offered a 6-speed manual transmission with shortened first gear. To save more fuel, the Italians have provided Start & Stop technology. In terms of styling, the specialists have offered a styling kit which contains special door sills with black moldings around the wheel arches and the bumpers with the skid plates, complete the process.

The Fiat Panda Trekking uses less fuel, but it is also less capable than the 4x4. it uses the same suspension of the Panda 4x4, but it features a front-wheel drive configuration and not the all-wheel drive of the first model. To improve its performance on low-traction surfaces, the model relies on a standard traction control system. When it comes to engine and transmission options, know that it uses the same variants mentioned above.
