Most customers prefer the passenger mid-size cars

On the North American market every year, carmakers manage to sell more than 1 million units. To be more precise, we are talking about the mid-size category. The most successful manufacturers are Toyota with their Camry on the third place, followed by the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado trucks. Next on the list we have the Japanese Nissan Altima which finished 4th, the Ford Fusion on 6th and the Honda Accord on the 9th place. C&D made some comparison tests lately and we will present you some of the results. The previous winner, the VW Passat sold in the US, not other, managed to beat the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata. Not, the model was compared with some fresh models like the new 2013 version of the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. The Fusion will be sold in Europe and the new Mondeo. If it is not clear enough, all four models are built in the US.

The starting price for the tested cars was established at around $26.000, which means around EUR20.450. The German VW Passat is powered by a 2.5-liter inline five engine capable of generating 177 horsepower. The Ford Fusion receives power from a 1.6-liter turbocharged four engine which produces around 178 horsepower. Next we have the new Accord, which delivers 185 horsepower with its 2.4-liter straight four. Last, but not least we have the new Altima powered by a 2.5-liter inline four capable of developing 182 horsepower. Both the Ford and VW models will use a 6-speed automatic transmission to send the output the wheels; the two Japanese ones on the other hand will be equipped with a CVT. As you can see, the German VW Passat sold on the North American market not just lost to Honda Accord, but actually arrived last behind the Fusion and the Altima.
