After the German carmaker announced that the production of the Routan had been halted, rumors begin to appear suggesting that the van was stopped for good. Nevertheless, according to Volkswagen, the production is going to be resumed in 2013. Leftlane put a new twist to the story saying that the Routan will be relegated to the role of fleet car and it will no longer be available at VW retailers. For the ones who do not know, the Routan was presented to the public in 2008, being built on the same body as the Chrysler Town&Country, which is going to be soon replaced by a new model. Mainly due to the increase price over the Chrysler version, the sales were poor and it would be advisable for Volkswagen to step away from this segment and direct its attention on its more appreciated SUVs.
