Markets are different because people seem to bee very different. For example in the US, carmakers still struggle with their customers for the acceptance of passenger cars powered by power trains that used diesel and not gasoline. In Europe, on the other hand, the diesel is now the fuel of choice. Even so, the diesel engine passenger cars only occupy a small portion of all ignition-compression motors that are being used now. As a result, the demand for the fuel is only set to grow in the next few decades. It will make up for as much as 70% of the growth in demand for all fuels, but only by the year 2040. We were able to access this information from a report called Outlook for Energy: A view to 2040 which was put together by ExxonMobil. The study underlines the fact that by 2020 diesel will have surpassed gasoline as the number one fuel drive by both increased demand for diesel-powered passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Here we also have to mention the heavy-duty vehicles. On the other hand, the demand for gasoline will remain the same even though by 2040 there will be twice as many personally owned vehicles on the road than there are now. In this period of time, the demand for fuel used in aviation and the marine industry will also go up by 75% and 90% respectively. According to the same report, by 2025 the hybrid technology will be more accessible and by 2040 hybrid cars will make up more than 50 % of all new cars sales. Of course, the full electric vehicles and the plug-in hybrid are also expected to increase their number in the future. This report sounds very confident, but we all need to have in mind the fact that a lot can go wrong and there are many factors involved that could change and not necessarily in a good way.
