Bentley is, by all means, a name in the car industry associated with opulence and excess. Modesty is not one of their characteristics, especially because everything they do needs to be uncommon and the target is made of the upper class persons to whom luxury is a necessity. The new Bentley Continental Supersports which is scheduled to go on sale in 2014 has everything a Bentley needs.
The British car manufacturer desires that the new Bentley Continental Supersports to be lighter than the previous model. Another goal of the company is to improve the braking system of the vehicle, and they aim for this despite the fact that the Continental series has one of the largest diameter brakes available on a production car.
The former model Bentley Continental Supersports was equipped with a new ZF-developed Quickshift transmission that halved shift times. The gearbox helped the car accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in 3.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 204 mph. The 621 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from the Bentley's W12-cylinder also had an important part in the accelerative data. Considering all these, a huge gain in horsepower is not planned by Bentley. The previous 621 horsepower will go up only to 650 horsepower.
The new Bentley Continental Supersports is created to be number one in the Continental line-up. However, the company plans to bring to life a road-going version of the Continental GT3 race car, too. And if this comes true, the first place will be disputed by the two vehicles. The major difference between those two is that the GT3 would be a limited production whereas the new Supersports would be a series edition.
