Peugeot will soon launch the new 308

According to French carmaker Peugeot, their new 308 model will be very different from the current model. Peugeot product boss Laurent Blanchet declared that the new model will have a shape that will manage to make the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf, its direct competitors feel a bit afraid. The man insisted with the fact that the new Peugeot 308 will be very similar to a conventional hatchback in terms of looks. It will be very hard to tell which one is it, because according to the manufacturer, this will be a mix between a saloon and a hatchback.

If Blanchet is right, we will have the opportunity to see the new 308 at the Frankfurt Motor Show this next September. In terms of design, the model will have several influences from the Onyx concept car, and we will be able to see the elements borrowed especially at the front. The man in charge with the design, Gilles Vidal declared that fact that the model will have the front end derived from the Onyx, but also added the help of the 504 Coupe as well.

The new 308, which will not be called 309, if that was what you thought, will actually be the first Peugeot to use the new EMP2 platform developed by PSA which in fact underpins the Citroen C4 Picasso as well. The engineers will also used this platform in the C and D-segment models which actually represent more than half of the output of the group. This means the rear suspension will get either a torsion beam or a multi-link. Either way, the new platform will offer a more dynamic stance and shorter overhangs and the front-end design will also benefit from the lower engine mounting positions. This will in fact offer a more aggressive design with a lower bonnet. The new model will be around 70 kg lighter. Source: carscoop.blogspot
