BMW will invest EUR3 billion in its EV range

German carmaker BMW has announced that plans to invest EUR 3 billion for the development of its I EV cars before the end of 2013. This is what German newspaper Handelsblatt reported. This incredible amount comes from profits obtained by the Bavarians from markets like China, the newspaper added. This sum mentioned has as base calculations made together with the bank Credit Swisse. According to other declarations, a third of the 2012 EBIT earnings of the group of EUR7.6 billion came from sales on the Chinese market. If we listen to the carmaker, they say that that sum was very big and that they have no idea on how the two have reached it and where exactly it comes from. The German manufacturer is doing its best to launch the i3 electric city car before the end of 2013. They are also trying to meet stricter emission rules in the E.U, the United States and also in China. The report mentioned says that the fleet currently has an average emission of 138 g/km in the E.U. the standards for the new cars are a bit lower, at 95 g/km by 2020. Of course, the best and easiest way to reach their targets is with electric vehicles. This year, at the 2013 edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show that will take place in September, the Germans will introduce the production version of the i3. The model is scheduled for debut in the fourth quarter of the year. At the beginning of next year, the carmaker will also launch the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car which is expected to cost more than EUR 100.000. There are no details on the price of the new BMW i3, for the moment.
