Audi will expand the A4 lineup with the Vario

Different German sources have mentioned the fact that Audi plans on expanding the next generation A4 lineup. The new model that will enter their family is called Vario. These sources have also mentioned the fact that the new Vario will have as base the long-wheelbase variant that belongs to the China-spec A4 which is actually seen as a competitor for the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo. Nothing is for sure yet, of course, but the Germans might launch the new thing in 2016. In 2017, Audi will also launch the Sedan and Avant versions.

We suspect the sedan variant will have a longer wheelbase and it is expected to lose around 100 kg. The S4 might receive power from a 3.0-liter V6 engine capable of generating 340 horsepower. The other variants will come with a 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter TFSI units. The first one will have as output 122 horsepower and 180 horsepower and will come with cylinder deactivation which will reduce the fuel consumption by half a liter per 100 km, which comes in very handy. In terms of the diesel lineup, you should know that the 2.0-liter TDI will be able of developing 150 horsepower and 184 horsepower. There will also be a V6 TDI unit that will have as outputs 218 horsepower and 272 horsepower. The Germans also have prepared a plug-in hybrid version that will work with a 2.0-liter TFSI, with an electric motor, with a lithium-ion battery and with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The new model will also have a second electric motor on the rear axle which will offer the car a four-wheel drive system. Combined, the two will offer another 136 horsepower. The infotainment system will also be upgraded with a central rotary control. So it seems that Audi has been doing their homework.
