Alfa Romeo might no longer be produced in Italy

There are different rumors indicating that the future Alfa Romeos will be made in the US. As it turns out, Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has declared he intends to move Alfa Romeo production out of Italy and so this might happen. The reason for this decision is the labor rules of the country that hinder the ability of Alfa Romeo to compete with rivals like BMW, for example. The Italian carmaker has stopped all investments for now in Italy trying to convince the Italian government to adopt reforms that will in fact generate clearer work rules. This might help, of might not, only time can tell. This decision came the labor contracts of Fiat suffered a setback in Italian courts. For example, Fiat plans to spend more than EUR2 billion in Alfa Romeo and Maserati to develop eight Alfa Romeo models and six Maseratis. Here we have to mention the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and the Maserati Levante SUV. These were supposed to be built in Italy to solve some of the issues of the country, but it never happened. One thing is fore sure though, the re-launch of Alfa Romeo will happen, but now Italy has to decide if they want it to happen in the country or not, because Fiat and Chrysler have other alternatives already. Nothing is for sure, but if the carmaker will move the production sites, both the economy of country and its image will suffer a lot. Is Italy willing to take this big risk? Now, Fiat will soon start production of the Maserati Ghibli sports sedan and will start deliveries of the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car. Before thinking about investing more in Italy, the brand will need more specific and reliable rules.
