The 2014 Smart ForTwo will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show

Nothing is for sure, yet, but as it turns out, different sources have mentioned the fact that Smart will preview two concepts if the all-new Smart ForTwo and ForFour. This will actually take place in September at the 2013 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show. According to the same sources, both of them will share the same platform together with the 3rd generation Renault Twingo. The cars will be sent to production, but only in 2014. We had the opportunity to read all types of news indicating that the 3rd generation Smart ForTwo will come on the market at a coupe and as a cabriolet as well being equipped with a fabric roof.

The model will receive power from an all-new direct injection, 3-cylinder 0.9-liter gasoline engine which has been designed and developed by Mercedes-Benz and Renault which will be capable of generating 85 BHP when naturally aspirated and 105 BHP when turbocharged. To transfer the output to the wheels, the engineers have offered as optional a dual clutch, 7-speed automatic transmission. As it turns out, there are no details on a diesel engine for now. The ForTwo e-Drive model will also get an electric motor capable of producing 90 BHP which will work with a lithium-ion battery pack. The ForFour will use a platform developed for the ForStar concept. It will be capable of seating four people and will be 820 mm longer than the ForTwo. Just for information, the new model will measure 3.550 mm in length and 1.701 mm in height. The wheelbase will measure 2.470 mm.  One of the engines available will be a more powerful version of the 900 cc mill turbo unit. A SUV variant is also a possibility, just to give some hard time to the Mini Countryman. Source: worldcarfans
