2015 VW models will receive a new diesel engine

The Germans from Volkswagen have announced the fact that they will release a new EA288 diesel engine for the US models that will be available starting with 2014. According to a speech held at the Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Michigan, Schmidt announced the fact that this new TDI Clean Diesel engine will power models like the 2015 Golf, Beetle, Passat and Jetta. These models are set to arrive in dealerships next year, sometime. Year-to-date, the VW Group of America has sold more than 47.000 clean diesel vehicles, including more than 10.000 in the month of July alone. So that we can make a better idea, this represents almost 78 % of the diesel sales for passenger cars in the US this year alone. Now, with the new TDI Clean Diesel vehicles, the Germans are improving their technology and manage to become cleaner, more fuel efficient and more powerful as well. in the end, the new EA288 will replace all 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel engines fitted in Audi and Volkswagen TDI Clean Diesel models. This is actually turbocharged, common-rail, direct-injection 4-cylinder engine capable of generating 150 horsepower and 236 lb. ft. of torque. The engineers have also worked on different changes that enabled the engine to emit less CO2. They have used complex exhaust gas recirculation system, integration of the water-cooled intercooler and the EGR valve with the intake manifold which, by the way, also improves the throttle response. The friction was also minimized and the fuel consumption was optimized thanks to the low-friction bearings for the camshaft and balancer shafts, piston rings and the oil pump with volumetric flow regulation as well.
