Volvo offers more details on the new Drive-E lineup

According to Volvo specialists, the carmaker has big plans for the near future. The engineers have been working on developing a new range of engines called Drive-E which will first be available in Europe starting this fall. The first three engines from the 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Drive-E power train family will be launched in Europe in autumn 2013. During the same time, there will also be revealed a diesel version that come with an i-Art technology, which is a first in the world, and also the most powerful petrol version that comes with a combination of turbocharger and compressor. The Drive-E will range from 120 to 230 BHP. Petrol versions will start at 140 BHP and will go up to more than 300 BHP. There are engines that will also gain added performance through electrification or other innovative technologies. In Europe, the S60, V60 and XC60 will come with the 360 BHP petrol turbo T6, the 245 BHP T5 and the turbo diesel D4 capable of generating 181 BHP. To transfer all the output to the road, the engineers have offered a new 8-speed automatic transmission. As mentioned above, each diesel features i-Art technology which makes it possible to continuously monitor and adapt fuel injection per combustion in each of the four cylinders. Each injector comes with a small computer capable of monitoring injection pressure. The diesel versions come with twin-turbo, reduced friction and s smart valve solution on the cooling system for faster heat-up phase after a cold start. The engineers have also offered friction-reduced elements for the Drive-E like, for example, ball bearings on the camshaft, high-speed continuous variable timing and intelligent heat management.
