Anyone remember the former Porsche Carrera GT? Or maybe you're one of the lucky 1270 owners? Well, we have some good news for you.
In partnership with Michelin, Porsche have just revealed a new set of tires for the ride. While the Pilot Sport PS2 provided a good stability and handling for the car, apparently it can get even better. After close to 10 years of research in tire development, the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tire is ready to step up and replace the Pilot Sport PS2.
Building on the development of racing tires, Michelin's Pilot Super Sport tires are designed to deliver performance and longevity by blending Max Performance driving characteristics with extended tread wear.
So what is new about these tires? Well, to name a few...
Pilot Super Sport tires are lighter, with weight savings of up to 10% compared to other tires of similar dimensions. This reduces unsprung weight to improve handling.
The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound lightweight Twaron cord. Twaron is a polyamide cord that offers a high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance durability and handling at high speeds.
The Pilot Super Sport features a polyester casing to promote a comfortable ride and responsive handling.
What do all of these this mean for your Porsche Carrera GT ? Simply put, better handling and stability. The new features of the Pilot Super Sport tires will account to:
- Highly precise steering behavior
- More grip on bends
- Improved braking performance
- Mileage up to 10% higher on standard roads and up to 20% on race tracks
The new tires for the Porsche Carrera GT will come in two sizes: 265/35 ZR 19 98Y "N0" and 335/30 ZR 20 108Y "N0" dimensions.
