Ford S-Max Concept to be previewed at Frankfurt Motor Show

This week in Cologne, Ford has released a preview of its new S-Max concept, which is going to debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new vehicle aims to live up to the public's expectations since the first release in 2005.

Ford says that the S-Max reveals Ford's vision for a future sport activity vehicle.

Reports would indicate that the second generation S-MAX will share architecture, powertrains and technologies with the new Ford Mondeo and be built at Valencia.
The front of the exterior is dominated by Ford's new Aston Martin-like grill and long, slender light units. There’s also a full-length glass panel in the roof, though it's possible this may not be available on showroom cars.

The interior features high-quality materials, including carbon fibre seats. For the passenger's comfort, the rest of the interior has been designed in Nubuck leather.

The S-Max concept will come with a a 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine capable of 178 hp (133 kW) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque.

Martin Smith, Ford Europe executive design director, stated: "S MAX drivers are passionate and bring high expectations – they see their S-MAX as a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Our mission was to exceed their expectations in every area while respecting the core of what they love about the S-MAX".

The concept is also equipped with full in-car wi-fi services for passengers and a tablet docking station. It supports the voice-activated link to smartphone apps that Ford has been introducing on production cars.

The current S-Max is sold only in Europe, however in light of this new launch, Ford is considering to sell the next-generation model in China as well. At this time, there are no plans to include the model in North America.

The Ford S-Max Concept is expected to go on sale in 2015, along with the Ford Galaxy.
