Kia’s Soul has been a true success so far, thanks to clever packaging, unique styling, and funky marketing campaigns. First shown in production form at the 2008 Paris auto show, the Soul was designed at the company's U.S. headquarters near Irvine, California, credited to Mike Torpey under the design leadership of Peter Schreyer.
This year, Kia has fully redesigned the five-door hatchback with a larger footprint, a different interior, and carefully updated sheetmetal.
The 2014 model will come in three distinct versions:
The base model, Kia Soul
The middle range, Kia Soul Plus
The top of the line, Kia Soul Exclaim
The South Korean company has recently announced the prices for the 2014 car.
The Soul Base will start at $14,700. It will come equipped with a 1.6L 130 horsepower and 118 lbs-ft of torque I-4 DOHC gasoline direct injection engine. It will also feature Hill-Start Assist Control, and options to add 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Soul Plus, starting at $18,200, is equipped with a 164-horsepower, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. It allows upgrades to 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black with chrome bezel front upper grille and outside mirrors with turn signal indicators.
Starting at $20,3001, the Soul Exclaim has additions such as 18-inch alloy wheels, body-colored front and rear bumper, LED taillights, LED positioning lights, power folding outside mirrors, and the UVO eServices.
Automotive executives dream about having a succes such as the Kia Soul. It's the car they all wish for during a career, the one that arrives with minimal expectation and becomes a sensation. You could credit quirky marketing -- the hamsters advert may come to mind -- but cute commercials don't sell cars. The Soul is simply a fun, funky and useful vehicle, and now with the weight of success, the 2014 Kia Soul is careful not to stray from the original formula.
