Holden Barina RS soon to come

We might say that Holden is the national car producer of Australia and it can provide about anything the market requires, from SUVs and trucks to hatchbacks and sedans. The company has in its fleet the Holden Barina, a subcompact automobile which has been sold for the first time in 1985. Since then it has gone through six generations and the company is now announcing an RS version of the car for 2014.

As a matter of fact, all the Holden Barina versions are just some rebadged vehicles like the Suzuki, Opel or Daewoo. Well, this future coming 2014 Barina model is a copy of the Chevrolet Sonic RS. Barina is an Australian aboriginal word that means “summit”. So let’s see just how high the quality of the car goes. The Barina RS will feature an aerodynamic body kit that contains some updated bumpers, new side skirts and a large rear spoiler. The manufacturer will also equip the vehicle with some sport seats, a flat bottom steering wheel and a set of 17 inch alloy wheels.

Holden is short on offering information, but as the Barina RS will be a replica of the Sonic RS, we can suppose it will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine that generates 138 bhp (103 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque. No matter what the engine configuration will turn out to be, the engineers at Holden did a large number of tests for the car. The Barina RS will reach dealerships in November. There is no rumour regarding the starting price for the hatchback.
