Abarth sets eyes on Fiat 500L

What does a scorpion on a red and yellow shield symbolize? This might be a question worth of a quiz. Well, the answer is Abarth. This is the car producer that has chosen the already named logo, back in 1949 when the company was founded in Turin, Italy. And getting back to nowadays, the manufacturer is planning to realize a high-performance version of the Fiat 500L.

The five-door model is referred to as an MPV that has the feel of a small SUV. It has ample seating for five people with dimensions measuring 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high. The officials at Abarth, the Fiat official tuner, stated that they want to expand their line-up so there are high chances that the Fiat 500L will be among the stars.

With the Fiat 500L, power is provided by either a petrol engine (TwinAir and 1.4-liter) or a diesel engine (turbocharged 1.3 MultiJet II). The Abarth 500L will probably use the 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir engine upgraded to generate up to 180 HP (132 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. This should transform it into a worthy and more affordable adversary of the MINI Countryman Cooper S. The Fiat Panda could also enter the new Abarth line-up, benefiting of a similar treatment as the 500L. Now, we just have to wait and see what the tuner will succeed in doing.
