Opel will built the Zafira in France

Nothing is for sure, but the next generation Opel Zafira MPV might be built at the Peugeot-Citroen Sochaux plant located in France. This is what a French business daily paper declared in a report that contains different anonymous sources that have access to a lot of info. The company will soon start the production of the next generation Citroen C3 Picasso MPV in Spain, where the Opel Zaragoza is being built. The carmaker is now building it in Slovakia, but apparently not for long. Currently in Spain, the specialists also built the Opel Corsa and the Opel Meriva. The Mokka crossover will be manufactured in Zaragoza, Spain as well, but not just yet. According to the same sources, the Opel Plant in Bochum, Germany will shut down before the end of next year. Here is where the Zafira is being built at the moment. All these modifications come as a consequence of the alliance between GM and PSA Peugeot-Citroen. The agreement includes the development of new models that use the same platforms, but it is not that easy, of course. First we have to say that the PSA is not able to use the mid-sized platform of GM because of the opposition from SAIC Motor which is the partner of GM in China and for them PSA is a rival on the home market. Also, the PSA cannot integrate the dual-clutch gearboxes of GM in its models. Things are quite complicated, if you ask us, but there is no need to be worried for the D-segment as the plan will not be abandoned. The next Opel Insignia is expected to have the new EM2 platform developed by PSA. The model will be built in the same place as the new Citroen C5, in France. In the end things are not that bad; they are complicated, but still applicable.
