Chevrolet Malibu turns 50

Chevrolet is now celebrating 50 years of existence for the Malibu model. As you probably know, it was a good year for the middle class just because the economy had fully overcome the hardship of war and this is why a lot of people need money to spend. To be fair, a gallon of gas costs 30 cents and, just for comparison, a movie ticket costs $1.25. This is, and we are sure you agree, for Chevrolet to introduce the Malibu. The target market includes suburban customers that need roomy vehicles that in the same time are efficient in terms of fuel in case they will need to use it all day long. The model was introduced for the first time back in 1964 and it was one of the first mid-size cars released for the North American market. Before the Malibu we had a passenger car lineup that included a range of full-size models with he Impala in front, but also together with the Chevrolet II, Corvair and Corvette. The first generation was launched between 1964 and 1967 and it came with a body-on-frame construction and responsive coil-spring front suspension. The second generation was launched between 1968 and 1972 and had as base the original intermediate platform, but came with a 112-inch wheelbase platform. Other generations followed and the last one, the 8th one has been launched in 2013. The 2013 Malibu comes with a 2.0-liter turbo unit capable of generating 259 horsepower as standard. Another option in terms of engine is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of generating 65 % more power in comparison to the 3.2-liter 6-cylinder. Please check out the photo gallery we have prepared for you below and tell us what you think about the evolution of the Chevy models with the years.
