BMW 4-Series Hybrid confirmed for L.A.

The Los Angeles Auto Show began in 1907 with ninety-nine vehicles on display at Morley’s Skating Rink. As the auto industry grew, the auto show changed and got more and more participants. Currently it is open to the public for ten days each year, at the end of November and the beginning of December, filling 760,000 square feet (71,000 m2) of exhibit space. The 2014 L.A. Auto Show confirms, up till now, 22 world debuts. One of them will be the BMW 4-Series Hybrid.

How many BMWs can you see on the streets? A lot would be the appropriate answer. BMW has slowly but surely become a global brand and it is open to all kinds of innovative ideas. And since the hybrid era is on the move in the auto field, the German company can be no exception. There are already some hybrid vehicles in the BMW fleet, but one more doesn’t do any harm. The BMW 4-Series hybrid that will soon be introduced will probably be based on the 4-Series Coupe and it will use the same powertrain as the ActiveHybrid 3.

The information on the new BMW 4-Series lack till now but it is expected that the coupe will be powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and a 55 HP (40 kW / 54 hp) electric motor. They will work together to generate a combined maximum output of 340 HP (250 kW). The sedan relative of the vehicle is able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and uses 5.9 L/100km (47.9 mpg UK / 39.8 mpg US) having CO2 emissions of 139 g/km. The model can travel only on electricity for up to 4 km (2.5 miles) at speeds up to 75 km/h (46 mph). Considering these, we should expect at least the same thing from the hybrid coupe. But the question is: how much do the coupe lovers find a hybrid version appropriate for them? Well, the answer is to be confirmed by the future sales.
