Inifiniti Essence-based four-door coupe in the works, range-topping sportscar also considered

Rumors have it that Infiniti has plans to add a sportscar and a four door coupe to their range. The Japanese manufacturer has created a ten-year plan which is to enable them to reach the point of 150.000 sold units per year globally and 500K worth of sales by 2020.

Of course, the plan for increasing the sales volume also implies an initial $10 billion (1 billion per year) investment from parent company Nissan.  The money will be used for further developing and expanding the current five vehicle range. Currently, Infinity has started raising awareness toward the company`s vehicles by sponsoring Red Bull Racing. Although there are expectations for sports sub-brand, Andy Palmer (Nissan executive vice president) stated: There's a desire by some people internally to make the next Nissan GT-R and 370Z Infiniti models, but that would be wrong for the brand`.

Infinity has plans to expand the current range with a four door coupe inspired from the Infiniti Essence Concept. The company wishes to differentiate from the other competitors in the luxury car market by bringing a mixture of soft-road, coupe and sporty vehicles which are to be powered by electrified hybrid motors. `We can't just take on the opposition directly; we have to bring our own unique flavor to the global market` stated head of Infiniti Johann de Nysschen (former head of Audi North America).

The future two door concept vehicle will be based on the Merced MFA platform and reports say that designers decided to give up the sloping roofline. Also, the car will need to be larger in order to make room for the rear seats and doors.

Furthermore, it seems that future will also bring a production version for the Emerg-E Concept although this has not been officially confirmed. The vehicle will compete on the market with worldwide known names such as Jaguar or Aston Martin.
