The future Saleen supercar to be called the S8

Saleen Inc. was founded in 1984 in Southern California. The company is specialized in manufacturing vehicles for enthusiast drivers which include technology borrowed from the Saleen/Allen Speedlab race team, eight-time winners of sports car racing manufacturer championships. Saleen designs and manufactures high performance vehicles both for street use and for track racing, including the S7 supercar, the S281, the race SR and the N2O Focus. The company also produces and sells a huge line of performance elements and it also offers design, engineering and certification services. The staff working there is currently developing a new supercar which is supposed to be ready in two years’ time.

Steve Sallen decided to offer a few details about his future vehicle. The supercar segment is now the company’s aim. The future vehicle will be called the S8 and it continues the tradition of the American supercar from where the S5S Raptor concept left off. Basically, it is a reinvention of the Raptor concept. The concept is a rather old one, since it was released back in 2008 but the Saleen representatives promise a significantly improved, updated and modern vehicle due to be presented in 2015.

The Saleen S8 might very well borrow the same engine configuration as the S5S Raptor concept that is a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. The engine enables the car to sprint the 0-60mph time in just 3.2 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed of 200 mph (321 km/h). The former S5 Raptor concept was scheduled to enter sales in 2010. However, the plans were dropped off when Steve Saleen gave up working for the company. Hopefully the S8 becomes reality and we’ll get to see a new supercar on the auto stage.
