Hyundai teases Intrado concept with hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain, debuts in March at Geneva

Hyundai has officially announced their plans to release the Intrado concept. The new concept will be revealed during next year`s Geneva Motor Show set to take place in March 2014.

The photo attached to the press release indicates that the concept will be a compact crossover which, from the company`s point of view `has the potential to change the way cars are constructed in the future`. The vehicle uses a super lightweight structure made out of a combination of `advanced materials` which are joined together using an innovative technique. The Intrado concept is the first to use the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 designed language. Its styling cues were developed under the supervision of Peter Schreyer, President & CDO of Hyundai Motor Group. Schreyer is best known for his unique design for the Audi TT and, more recently for his successful work while at Kia. The company`s head stated that: `“Hyundai Intrado envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying`.

The design team closely collaborated together with the engineer teams developing the concept at the Hyundai Motor European R&D center in Rüsselsheim, Germany.  The name of the concept, `Intrado` was inspired from the zone underneath an aircraft`s wing. This is due to the fact that the auto was inspired from aircrafts technology, offering a concept which balances the usage of high spec. materials and a powerful drivetrain.

The future Intrado concept will be equipped with a new hydrogen fuel cell engine, a refined version of what can be found inside the ix35 Fuel Cell. The new drivetrain will be smaller and lighter. Judging by the ix35 FC performances, we could only expect for the Intrado to be even better. The current ix35 FC 594 Km autonomy is expected to increase at over 644 Km due to the fact that the Intrado setup will be lighter. At the same time, the Intrado should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 Km/ h a few seconds faster than the current 12.5 seconds required by the ix35 FC to do so.
