Ford presents the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept at CES

Hybrid cars are something that holds the headlines in the news all the time lately. There is an entire trend of creating eco-friendly cars in the auto field. There are several reasons why interest in these vehicles convinced even the biggest car producers to enter the trend. Ford, one of the most respectable brands in the world, is no exception. More than that, they are experimenting all kinds of ideas to make some of their vehicles even “greener”. The Americans have prepared for the 2014 CES the Ford C-MAX Solar Energi concept.

The Ford C-MAX Solar Energi concept draws its name from the solar roof panel it is equipped with. This concept has a plug-in hybrid configuration containing a battery pack that can be charged either from an electric point or directly from the sun. It can do this last thing with the help of a specially developed concentrator which behaves like a magnifying glass to direct the sun's rays to the solar panels mounted on the vehicle's roof.

Ford claims that a day of intense sunlight can provide the same performance that the plug-in hybrid version offers.  The corresponding figures are 108 MPGe city / 92 MPGe highway / 100 MPGe combined and offers a range of 620 miles (998 km). The 2014 Ford C-MAX Solar Energi concept will be officially presented at CES in a few days. As a matter of fact, the concept is the result of the collaboration between Ford, SunPower Corp. and Georgia Insitute of Technology. Although it is for now just an experiment, the vehicle will be submitted to some tough testing to see if it’s production could be possible.
