According to Bob Lutz the Chevy Volt should have been a truck

There are a lot of questions regarding electric vehicles and one of them comes from Bob Lutz who is trying to find the idea of the automotive industry in terms of electric cars. The specialist declared in an interview that the electrification process should have started with trucks. With these vehicles, the differences in terms of consumption are more significant and easier to highlight and to analyze. Mr Lutz continued by adding that the industry did not think things through and when the idea of Electric Vehicles first came into mind took a wrong path. Electric Vehicles make us think of high range and this is why specialists have started with small cars, which are economically anyway and not bigger ones. this was in fact the answer Lutz offered when asked if the Chevy Volt should have been a truck rather than a sedan. we do have to admit that is a lot easier do develop a small car with EV capabilities. Just imagine a 11-12 MPG truck and reduce this fuel consumption to 100 MPG, now that is a real achievement. By reducing the fuel consumption the CO2 emissions would also be reduced, of course. According to the man, the only electrification that would make sense would be the one involving bigger trucks and all because of the fuel savings reached each month. Lutz is now currently involved in a project that turns GM trucks, cargo and and passenger vans into extended-range electric vehicles.
