Porsche restores the 1898 P1 EV

For the ones that feel enthusiasm to auto-developments, we have prepared a new model, called P1 which makes us remember of the latest McLaren hyper car. Back in 1898, the P1 was in fact that unofficial name of first design of Ferdinand Porsche, the Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model. A few years later, when the carmaker has engraved this code, which was standing from Porsche number 1 onto all of the key components of the Electric vehicle, the model became known as the P1. The model designed and built in 1898 by Ferdinand Porsche which at the time was only 23 years old. The model you see in the photo gallery was recently recovered by Porsche and was brought to the collection museum. Why is the model so important, you may ask? Well, Porsche had to redesign its permanent exhibition at the Stuttgart museum to offer it a worthy place. Now, the P1 is the centerpiece used to introduce visitors to the first part of the exhibition which carries the name of the prologue. The model comes with a highly compact electric drive that weighs 130 kg and it is capable of generating 3 horsepower. Just for a limited period of time, it can reach up to 5 horsepower in overloading mode which enables the car to accelerate and reach a top speed of 35 km/h. The P1 has a range of 80 km, which is really impressive even for the standards we have today. The model was unveiled at the end of last month at the Porsche Museum in the presence of selected guests.
