Volkswagen comes second after GM

We are not sure you remember, but the last time we have checked the 2013 global car sales, in the top of them all we had the Japanese carmaker Toyota followed closely by General Motors and Volkswagen on the third position. At that time, the Germans from Volkswagen have declared that they sold more than 9.7 million cars in 2013, however, after a second count they have advised that the figure has increased and that it is now the second-biggest carmaker there is. Christian Klinger, global VW sales chief managed to deliver 9.73 million vehicles last year and this way they have exceeded the 9.71 million units GM sold. An official VW spokesman confirmed the figure and this also includes VW-owned truck makers MAN and Scania. As for the looks of it, the Germans want to overtake Toyota as well by 2018, which last year sold 9.98 million. Here they have included truck maker Hino Motors and minicar-specialized company Daihatsu Motor. VW managed to sell this amount of cars because of the demand in China and this helped them overtake General Motors for the first time in nine years. The Germans also took advantage of the growth of luxury brands like Audi and Porsche. In the US, VW is not the successful whereas GM and Toyota feel like home. VW announced that wants to fix this problem and this is why they will invest more than $7 billion in the next 5 years in the region. The specialists want to increase sales here by 1 million cars by 2018. Last year, the German group sold 565.800 units in the US in 2013 alone.
