Volkswagen Golf GTE waits for its debut in Geneva

One of the most impressive events in the automobile field is just around the corner. Every important brand is preparing with all their strength for the event. It is the occasion to launch new concepts, production versions, upgrades and even tuning packages. We are talking here about the Geneva Motor Show which will take place at the beginning of March. Among the companies exhibiting there, Volkswagen will be present, too. One of the Volkswagen cars present in the event will be the Golf GTE.

The Volkswagen Golf GTE aims at combining the benefits of electric vehicles with the dynamism of a Golf GTI. So, GTE means “Gran Tourismo” Electric. The vehicle will surely be powered by a 1.4-litre TSI direct-injection petrol engine that generates 150 hp (110 kW) linked to a 102 hp (75 kW) electric motor. Together they develop 204 hp (150 kW), 350 Nm (258 lbs ft) of torque and a theoretical range of around 580 miles. Volkswagen Golf GTE is equipped with a six-speed DSG gearbox with a triple-clutch system. The fuel efficiency on a combined cycle is estimated at 188 mpg, while the CO2 emissions – at 35 g/km.

The Volkswagen Golf GTE is as typical as a regular Golf can be when it comes to the exterior. It is distinguished only by C-shaped LED daytime running lights on the front bumper that look like the ones on the e-Golf and aerodynamic horizontal ‘fins’ like the ones on the GTI. The hybrid vehicle will sit on a set of 18-inch ‘Serron’ alloy wheels. Blue stitching is found on the inside, on the steering wheel, the gear lever, the seats. Other goodies can also be found on this Golf but we’ll talk about them soon, once the car officially debuts in Geneva.
